How did you find out about CrossFit? Wanted to find a gym with early morning classes so I could workout, shower and be on my to school. My old place in Salem had run its course and I wasn’t feeling challenged. Karen welcomed me to CFCA and the rest is history.

Did you play sports back in the day? Or was it all smoking butts under the bleachers? Big rugby player in high school and college for a year, then joined the skydiving club and started jumping out of planes. Loved hiking, climbing and kayaking in the Lake District while home.

How has CrossFit changed your life outside of the gym? Feel generally physically and mentally stronger overall.  My mentality to face the day is so much better after a morning workout.  My 1st block students know 100% if I haven’t been to the gym on a particular day!

What and/or who motivates/inspires you? I still remember the words high school rugby coach told me when I was sixteen.  He told us to follow the 3R’s of being Respectful, Reasonable and Responsible.  It try to keep that in my mind when interacting with all the people in my life.

Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve with the gains made through CrossFit? I want to make the hill loop bench mark board!

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? Following my kids activities from the ice rink to dance studio to the soccer field keeps me busy. Snow shoeing and trail running allow me some alone time to run off the stresses of the day.

What’s your favorite aspect of CFCA? The community and coaches 100%.  Even the hardest workouts are presented to allow for success. The commitment of all involved to welcome, challenge and embrace everyone who walks through the door is a major factor I keep coming back.

CFCA favorite memory? My 1st time climbing the rope at the Spartan Race last year at Fenway. This was a direct result CFCA! I’d never even tried the rope after numerous Spartan races and to ring the bell at the top just felt amazing.  Thank you ‘J-Hook’.

Any tips for the new members? To the early risers, when the alarm goes off.  Get up and go.  Even when the workouts involve moves you are still developing, you’ll never get better if you skip! I’ve been saying that a lot recently and just showing up is a major part to winning that battle.
