Name:  Mike Lupo

Nickname:  My whole life everyone has called me by my last name, Lupo.

Occupation:  Bartender

Hometown:  Born and raised in Gloucester; left for 25 yrs and now returned back home!

Favorite Workout:  I love interval WODs! Anything with cardio basically. Especially the days that have a run.

Favorite Lift:  I do like the renegade man makers and thrusters. I don’t have a favorite OLY lift yet. I’m still working on those.

Favorite WOD Music:  I like all kinds of music, just as long as something is playing. But my playlist for running is a lot of Usher.

Which class do you usually attend?  5:30am or 8:30am classes  And really like the Saturday Team WOD.

How did you find out about CrossFit Cape Ann? After moving back home, I googled gyms and CFCA came up  I had heard of Crossfit but really didn’t know what it was. I came to a class to observe and ended up participating that day and was hooked.

Did you play sports back in the day? Or was it all smoking butts under the bleachers?  I played all kinds of sports as a kid but mainly a football player from 5 yrs old thru high school. I was always the tiny kid running for his life, LOL!

How has CrossFit changed your life outside of the gym?  Having owned a restaurant for 20 yrs I spent most of my time working (and quite a bit of time in a bar) and not much on health and fitness. Crossfit has motivated me to pursue activities I never would have tried in the past. I’ve become focused on exercise and an all around healthy lifestyle.

What/who motivates/inspires you?  That’s easy, everyone at CFCA, coaches and members. Observing and hearing about what others do inside and outside the gym motivates me to keep trying new and different things. It’s very inspiring to hear of all the accomplishments from other members and coaches.

Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve with the gains made through CrossFit?  My ultimate goal is to participate in a Tough Mudder or Spartan race but for now I’d really like to be able to get a double under.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?  Running, biking, beaching, hikes with my dog and spending time with my parents!

What’s your favorite aspect of CFCA?  My favorite aspect is the coaching staff. I would
have never continued if it wasn’t for all the help, encouragement and support you get from the coaches. I feel lucky to have a personal trainer in every class!

Favorite CFCA memory?  It has to be my first rope climb! 8 months ago I couldn’t get a foot off the ground and thought there was no way I was ever getting up that rope. I can’t remember the last time I was that excited to accomplish something!

Any tips for the new members?  My biggest fear was looking like an idiot trying some of the exercises and not attending classes because of it. But, believe me no one is judging you. Everyone at CFCA is there to help and encourage you for any level u can handle. Some of the workouts I dreaded most have turned out to be the ones I enjoyed most!
