E ( just given to me by Kara because we all decided at ladies night that we needed nicknames. I’ve never had one!) but girls at work sometimes call me Glosta.
Occupation outside of being a CrossFit champ?
Labor & Delivery nurse at Beth Israel Hospital & proud mom of Finn & Kate.
Hometown? G-town but originally from Houston, Texas
I just love the grinder workouts in general, with teams because I’m much better at the sprints than endurance.
Favorite Lift? Deadlift, duh. 😊 but I live for all the lifting classes.
Favorite WOD music? 90’s hip hop, rap..any Beasties or Rage.
Which class do you usually attend?
Always ladies night..I actually take personal time off work to attend if I have to work on a Monday night 😜 and usually the grinder or Vince’s class on Wednesday afternoons. And I’ve been loving the Sunday mornings.
How did you find out about CrossFit?
My friend Heidi convinced me to join & she only lasted a few months..here I am 4 years later!
Did you play sports back in the day? Or was it all smoking butts under the bleachers?
Totally smoking. But usually in the woods or down the cove in Lanesville! I did Nautilus at the Y in high school but I was never a “joiner” & hated competitive sports.
How has CrossFit changed your life outside of the gym?
Being around a group of healthy minded individuals who motivate you to be your best has made me much more aware of my choices. I want to be healthier & enjoy & experience whatever I can in this life. I love how strong I feel now. I love the great example I’m setting for my daughter. And I have made amazing friends who give me confidence, encouragement & motivation every time I’m with them.
What and/or who motivates/inspires you?
My children are my ultimate motivation. Traveling & seeing the world inspires me to stay healthy, mobile and flexible in body & spirit. I need to stay healthy for many years to come if I want to see it all!! And women like Barbara & Suzanne are super inspirational to me. They are my role models.
Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve with the gains made through CrossFit?
My goals are not huge. I want to NOT be a nurse with a bad back, knee replacements, shoulder surgeries. I want to bring all the groceries in at once. I don’t want to have to ask a man for help to lift something. I want to stand up straight and not be achy. I want to have freedom & not be held back by my body. Period.
What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
Sleep?!??? 😜. Hahaha. Seriously, travel, reading, beach & boat all summer. My cats and kids take up most of my time nowadays. Can I say Bravo? Cause I watch a lot of that. 😊
What’s your favorite aspect of CFCA?
Well, I love the variety & motivation of having, pretty much a personal trainer at each class. But, of course, it’s the people. The coaches are the best! Jaime, Vince & Curtis are my regulars & not only are they super knowledgeable, but I just know they care so much. They’ve taken the time to get to know me & my strengths & weaknesses in the gym & who I am outside the gym. And the members…what can I say? I am truly blessed to have met these people. They are a family to me now & have made a huge positive impact on my life.
CFCA favorite memory?
Doing the Mike “dork” Kennedy hero WOD for my friend Dr. Anjelica Carbajal 3 years ago. She lost her friend & fellow cf’er while he was fighting a fire & we did the WOD in respect to him. I was so proud.
Any tips for the new members?
Just stick with it. You’re gonna be more sore than you ever have been in your life, maybe for a few months! Modify to challenging but doable with good form. Don’t compare yourself to others. We all are on our own journeys & have different skills, abilities & experience. Be consistent & just show up. Ask your coach questions. Don’t be afraid to say you don’t understand or are confused. Get to know people & go to the out of the gym activities. These people are the best!
