Occupation outside of being a Crossfit champ:
Kristin: Photo Editor & Studio Manager
Cape Ann Natives or transplants? and if so where from?
Travis: Transplant. I lived all over the west coast until High School. When I settled back home in Seattle.
Kristin: Medford MA
You two are the proud owners of Cape Ann’s only taco truck. What inspired the start of such an endeavor?
Travis: I missed the food from the Old Country, so I had to make it myself.
Travis: The Long Ones
Kristin: Anything involving a power snatch or Turkish get ups – love those
Travis: Power Snatch
Kristin: Snatch- who doesn’t love snatch
Which class do you usually attend?
Travis: Whenever I can fit it in.
Kristin: 5:30am- love getting it done. It helps with eating right too.
How did you find out about CFCA / Crossfit?
Travis: The old spot was right by my house and I was always curious/intimidated by those wing nuts carrying shit up the hill.
How long have you been crossfitting?
Travis: One year in April.
Kristin: I started last July after recovering from carpal tunnel surgery
Did you play sports back in the day? Or was it all smoking butts under the bleachers?
Travis: The Smiths, Bad Religion, Nirvana, Mudhoney, NOFX, and so so many cigarettes.
Kristin: Butts, booze and boys- those are sports right?!
What’s the best/worst part of having your spouse as a fellow CFCA member?
Travis: It’s awesome. Really awesome. We push each other and keep each other on track, and cheat together. Yeah she knows where the bodies are buried.
Kristin: The best part is we can talk WOD all the time. The worst is child juggling.
How has Crossfit changed your life outside of the gym?
Travis: Well besides overall health it is starting to have an effect on our kids, who are now talking about CF and simulating lifts and such.
Kristin: Everything is easier:running, lifting heavy gear at work, lifting the kids. I have much more energy.
What motivates/inspires you?
Travis: Well, I love pushing beyond my limits, and then breaking and putting it all back together again. Not naturally being coordinated it takes me time to get the mechanics of a lift, much frustration, over thinking, and finally at some point it just clicks.
Kristin: Travis. He amazes me. He looks great!
Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through Crossfit?
Travis: Dead hang pull ups. F*#king dead hang pull ups.
Kristin: I want to change the way my kids eat and lead by example and I want to look hot on the beach!
What are your hobbies outside of Crossfit?
Travis: Food, swimming, the ocean, micro brews, small batch bourbon and cosmology, how many people just read cosmetology?
Kristin: Kayaking, riding my beach cruiser & playing with my little people.
What’s your favorite aspect of CFCA?
Travis:I love the people at CFCA. People on the Journey. It is a real pleasure to sweat with all these awesome people.
Kristin: I love the community. It feels great being cheered on.
Apparently the heater is fixed, are you going to be sad to see Lake CFCA all dried up?
Travis: Wait, it’s fixed?
**Breaking News from CFCA Headquarters: The lake is back – it just moved to the far side of the room! **
Any tips for the newbs?
Travis: Think less. Don’t look at the workouts before hand. Embrace the process, discomfort, pain and uncertainty are the shortest part of the process. Confidence, strength and increased sexual prowess are the benefits that last.
Kristin: Don’t check the WOD before you come. Show up!
The beard is gone. Discuss.
Travis: I was out bearded. And I knew it. Plus I was sick of looking like I was lost in the woods.
