Name: Vince & Alex Pizzimenti
Occupation outside of being a crossfit champ:
V: Electro mechanical assembler at VSEA
A; Hairstylist & Bartender
V: That one with the 3 rounds of DL and Box jumps, or 21,15,9 of chest to bar and box jumps, I like jumping on and off stuff.
A: Annie, and I love a good hero workout!
V: I am really starting to like TGU with the barbell and heavy weight, I also like the clean and Jerk.
A: I like press and clean but I really like to work on any of the gymnastic stuff!
Which class do you usually attend?
V: I tend to go to the 4:15 PM or the 5:30 PM, I hope to start getting up for the 5:30 am so I don’t have to juggle golf and CF when the weather gets warm.
A: Anything after 9am! But I Love a good 4:15 or 5:30!!
How did you find out about crossfit?
V:I think I found the group on Facebook when you first got rolling, tried the first intro classes. 6 months later I was working in Newburyport and Danny V got me hooked. Soon I was working more in town and made the switch and would not look back.
A: My amazingly high energy husband.
How long have you been crossfitting?
V: About 2 years now.
A: Since Nov 2011
Did you play sports back in the day? Or was it all smoking butts under the bleachers?
V: I was always involved in sports since I was walking. I took a liking to Football Lacrosse and indoor track in my high school years. I captained my college lacrosse team to a first ever NCAA tourney birth. Now I spend some time giving back coaching lacrosse at the high school.
A: I used to run track, 200’s and hurdles mostly. No long distance for this chic! And I loved me some cheerleading.
What’s the best/worst part of having your spouse as a fellow CFCA member?
V: I love that its something that we can go do together, we are both making an effort to live healthy active lives and crossfit is a great place to go do that. The worst part is…….. If there was one I would get in trouble for telling you any way. But now that coaching is right around the corner for me I am willing to bet there will be a few dirty looks.
A: oh man that boy doesn’t sit still! It’s a great thing actually because I just end up chasing each other while we are doing work outs! He really pushes me to be so much better. It’s also harder to slack when u want to, lol.
How has crossfit changed your life outside of the gym?
V: Most of my friends are not very active people, and I am always looking for the next thing to keep me moving, Crossfit has given me the opportunity to meet some cool people who have some similar interests as me. I have broadened my group of friends and am no longer doing these activities by myself.
A: I don’t have to ask for help with the kegs at work! No really it’s been great for me physically, mentally, it’s the best thing I do for me.
What motivates/inspires you?
V: I think its mostly being able to live a healthy fun live as long as possible. I have had some family members with some brutal diseases like ALS and Alzheimer’s. It’s tough to see what can be taken away in life. I wake up every day and just try to get as much out of it as possible.
A: Everyone at crossfit. ( so cheesy ) but it’s so true. I have never me such an amazing group of people before. They make me want to eat cleaner, lift more, it’s great!
Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through Crossfit?
V: In the gym I would love to land a 65 inch box jump.
A: I would love to get a muscle up that damn thing haunts me in my sleep. But other wise just to get overall stronger and for my body to stay healthy. And have a cleaner diet, that’s a hard one :-)
What are your hobbies outside of Crossfit?
V: Anything outdoors, surfing, kayaking, fishing, spear fishing, mountain and road biking, target shooting, and spending time with the pups.
A: hah crossfit is my hobby! Does work count? No , I love to hang out with the pups take to the beach, kayak.
What is your favorite aspect of CFCA?
V: Obviously we have some great people and a kick ass community. Being an athlete my whole life I LOVE the competition aspect, whether it be against my previous time or number or trying to grind it out with the athlete next to me, Im always trying to make it to the next level. Also it is a sport I will be able to have for a lifetime. I mean I do love to golf but that’s more about the getting out in the sun and drinking beer with some friends.
A: The sense of community. The challenge.
Apparently the heater is fixed, are you going to be sad to see Lake CFCA all dried up? (we were waterfront again for a while there you know!)
V: I was hoping it was going to freeze up so we could have our own private pond
A: I’m all for a water view! But I am a bit of a klutz I manage to fall on my own
Any tips for the newbies?
V: Grab a big glass and drink the cool aid, Just show up and work, don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. Work on mechanics and skills before weight and speed, that will come with time. Yeah it sucks but if it didn’t, it wouldn’t work. Don’t become discouraged It truly does become fun and the cool aid tastes great after some time.
A: Take your time and don’t compare your self to the people who have been in the gym for while. You will get there with the weight, pull ups it all just takes time!
