How long have you been Crossfitting? Just passed my 1 year
anniversary last week!

Do you have an athletic background or was is all cigarettes behind
the bleachers back in the day?

I was completely non-athletic growing up. My parents signed me up for the usual when I was a kid, soccer and softball which I hated. If someone had showed me weightlifting years ago, I’m sure I would have loved it.

I did a brief stint in the 90’s with step aerobics. I was really good at it too…sometimes I even did it holding 1# weights! From there I transitioned to double stroller power pushing, and then as life got
busy, onto a life of mediocrity which mostly included leisurely strolls around the neighborhood.

How has Crossfit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

I am in the best shape of my life, I am “high school skinny” without
having surgery or supplements with weird side effects. And I love
that Crossfit is totally functional. For example I mail out a lot of
really heavy boxes, and lifting them and carrying them into UPS –
NBD! Plus I’m much more confident now. If I can lift 200#, surely I
can run my own business, right? How hard can it be?

I feel like I can take on more things now. I don’t even feel the need to know the WOD beforehand, I feel like I can tackle whatever is on the board. Its kind of like how life is…you never know what’s in store, but it helps to be self assured.

Also, eating paleo is a godsend! No counting calories, no weighing food. Its exactly what I need – simple and, as an added bonus, I stopped getting migraines. Lastly, I’ve made a lot of wonderful new friends who I simply adore.

What motivates/inspires you? My kids for one. I want to be as active and healthy for as long as possible and be an inspiration to them to lead healthy lives of their own. I don’t want to be a burden to them when I’m older.

Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through Crossfit.

I would really like to wear that little sticker that says “I RX’d today”
and mean it!!

I know its hard to imagine, but do you have hobbies/interests
outside of Crossfit?

Well, as most folks know, I do have a penchant for taking pictures. I also enjoy combing the beaches for shells resembling religious figures so I can sell them on Ebay for big bucks.

What’s your favorite aspect/part of CFCA?

My wonderful crossfit peeps!! The coaches are always going over the movements in detail and they are there to help and correct you if you need it (which I totally need because I am that member who can’t remember squat – pun intended) and my fellow CFCA’s who totally inspire and encourage me, and make me laugh!! XOXO
And yeah, you know I absolutely love the decor

Any brilliant advice for new members?

Don’t be intimidated. When I first saw that “What is crossfit” video on youtube, I was a little afraid. Actually a lot. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, do what is best for YOU. Remember rest is super important. Don’t be afraid to scale workouts, but don’t be afraid to push yourself to failure either. And for the girls, you can find really cute knee-socks at Target without spending a lot. Your bacon and coffee intake will most likely increase (not necessarily a bad thing). And Crossfit is not just for the young folks. Seriously, if I can do this, anyone can.
