Name: Carol Hong and sometimes Carol Hong Richon, depends on who is asking.

Nickname:
Mama

Age and weight? Now why would you need to know that information? All you need to know is that I am a more mature, lighter version of my former self.

Occupation outside of being a Crossfit champ: Certified Nurse Midwife aka baby catcher (which translates into nurse practitioner with a specialty in OB/GYN)

Hometown: I moved around quite a bit growing up so I’d have to say my adopted hometown is FishCity, G-town baby!

Favorite WOD: any of those bitches will do

Favorite Lift: FTM; fork to mouth or OH/back squat

Which class times do you usually attend? 0530, 8 or 9;15 am

How long have you been Crossfitting? since Feb 07, 2011

How did you find Crossfit?   Enza I told me about it!

And how does Crossfit differ from your last gym or exercise routine?   Crossfit isnt a routine. CrossFit isnt an exercise. It’s a way of life. But if i must dish…I’ve been a runner since forever and when I went to the gym i did the stairmaster and some spinning. The machine workouts were sort of mundane and pedestrian. I have also done a bit of Vinyasa yoga & 1 tri, which was a blast.

Do you have an athletic background or was is all cigarettes behind the bleachers back in the day?   I played sports in school…soccer, running & field hockey but was never the star. And truthfully I only did field hockey because the uniform skirt was cute. And it looked really good behind the bleachers with a cigarette in my mouth.

How has Crossfit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?   Crossfit has surely made me stronger overall, smaller in some places and larger in others. It has improved my general well being and my physical and mental health. Lifestyle changes include much more careful attention to where my meat/animal proteins come from. Organic is no longer the first thing I look for: it’s grass fed or nada!

What motivates/inspires you?   Mike Meyers. And when he isn’t there I love to read about/see people overcoming their obstacles and achieving whatever it is they thought they couldn’t and generally working hard. Also, even if it sounds funny, when I help a baby into this world and I look at his/her face I see all the potential of the world and am both motivated and inspired to do my best at whatever it is I’m doing. I think that positive energy gets paid forward.

Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through Crossfit.
I would love to do any WOD Rx’d that includes pull ups -no mod!!

I know its hard to imagine, but do you have hobbies/interests outside of Crossfit?
All I care about is the cult, I have no other interests. However, before I drank the Kool Aide I liked laughing, running, gardening, reading, traveling and the beach.

What’s your favorite aspect/part of CFCA?
Mike Meyers. And when he isn’t there I really enjoy the humor, camaraderie and the encouragement that the community brings. I guess that was a long way of saying “the community”.

Any brilliant advice for new members?
Month 1: acclimate, don’t look for results, focus on form
Month2 : give yourself a pat on the back for coming consistently and getting stronger
Month 3 : Stop worrying about how many F-bombs your dropping during the WODs’
Month 4: Go time! Look in the mirror, love the changes, recognize your new strength and flaunt whatever you got!

Have you met Pukie?  Yeah, I used to have a thing with him.

You are highly entertaining when you come to class. Where do you find all the material to keep us laughing?   At Crossfit Cape Ann!  Some supplemental material may occasionally be borrowed from real life stories of the OB/GYN office!  You know you cant make that sh** up!
