How long have you been Crossfitting? A little over 6 months
Which class time do you usually attend? 9 a.m.
How did you find Crossfit? I heard about CrossFit through friends. I knew that once I started it I would love it.
What is your athletic background? My dad was a track coach who made me run the mile along the 100 and the other sprinting events (which I preferred) until I was too cool for sports in high school. I also dabbled in field hockey, cheerleading and soccer. Post high school-I was really into yoga, sprinting and tooling around the gym at my college until I found derby and I’ve been doing that now for sixth year. Throughout the derby years I continued running/sprinting and then started adding in a couple days at the gym. And, you know, the rest is CrossFit Cape Anne history.
How has Crossfit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness? I really like how CrossFit covers everything. It’s hard but once you get there it’s really easy to push yourself when everyone else is doing just that. I am definitely of the “no pain no gain” camp so me and CrossFit? It’s a good marriage. Exercise is just so important to my own personal well-being and being involved in the CrossFit community makes me want to stay involved and it’s easy to stay motivated. It’s not always easy to motivate myself otherwise. As far as derby goes I feel a lot lighter on my feet and I feel like CrossFit has made me a very adaptable player.
What motivates/inspires you? People, community, feeling like I worked hard at something even though it sucked in the moment.
Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through Crossfit.
Okay, I think I’m going to name more than one. The biggest thing is improving my form on all the major lifts. I would like to get more coordinated, definitely and I’d love to get my balance and core back to where I felt it was when I was really into yoga. I guess to just generally get better!
Hobbies/Interests outside of Crossfit? Hmmm, well, derby of course, adventures in paleo cooking, fashion, music, writing.
What is your favorite cheat meal? welly welly wellikans. I guess some sort of meal including cookies, brownies and ice cream does that count? I really have had a raging sweet tooth since starting the paleo.
Any advice for new members? Enjoy the community, don’t cherry-pick (as Jon says), prepare to be frustrated, set small goals, push yourself to failure. Smile!
Have you met Pukie? Not at CrossFit yet, although I was close. He and I had many-a-run-in at the start of my derby days. I’m glad I haven’t seen him in a while.
